We’re changing our name to Karma 🎉

We have evolved and grown a lot over the years, both personally and as a company. Ronen, my co-founder, and I launched a simple bookmarklet to help consumers save and track products back in 2014 (2014–2016 it was only the two of us!). Today we are leading a great team of more than 50 people bringing a much more seamless shopping experience to millions of people across our suite of apps for all major mobile platforms and browsers.

Sorry, how do you pronounce it?

When we founded Shoptagr in 2014, we wanted to create an intelligent price tracker to help consumers shop smarter and save money (a desperate need from my wife!). Inspired by Pinterest (Pin your interest), we came up with Shoptagr (pronounced Shoptagger — tag it and shop it). We didn’t give it too much thought at the time, but we believe that our name has done us more harm than good when looking back. Yes, we’ve grown significantly over the years, but let’s be honest — our company name is challenging to spell, difficult to remember, hard to pronounce, and dated with “gr” at the end (like Tumblr, Flickr). We believe that a name change will change how our customers and merchant partners perceive and react to us, how investors think of us, and most importantly, how we think and feel about ourselves moving forward. It’s a fresh start and the beginning of something big.

We’ve outgrown our name.

Today, we pride ourselves on being the world’s most efficient all-in-one digital shopping assistant with the most significant amount of pre-purchasing data to help our users plan and organize their next purchases across thousands of supported merchant partners (yes, we needed to work our way up one by one!). By leveraging great technology and real-time crowdsourced shopping data creating data network effects, we aim to give shoppers the most accurate and best value every step of the shopping journey — think Grammarly or Waze for shopping. We encourage smarter spending and fewer impulse buys! We’re making shopping better by delighting our users every step of the way with the ability to save it for later and get notifications, earn cash back, or apply coupons automatically to their cart to make sure they get the best value at our merchant partners. Over the years, we’ve become so much more than a simple bookmarklet — We have become a new and better way to shop by providing real added value to our users and our merchant partners!

We want to be World-Class!

Armed with strong market momentum, 2.5M+ users, a big vision, and recent funding led by NFX (one of the best early-stage consumer VCs in the world), we are building a world-class company and product that’s obsessed with providing incredible value to our users — and after almost seven years, we have decided to change our name. The timing is right, and we’ve chosen what we believe is a legendary name that will serve us well into the future and place us among the strongest consumer brands globally, right up there with the likes of Apple, Google, Nike, Disney, Spotify, and Netflix. We aim to become the market leader in the digital shopping assistants’ space, and after evaluating more than 50 names, we’ve decided on Karma.

We believe Karma is a legendary name. It’s short, uplifting, has meaning, is easy to spell, gives you a strong and powerful feeling, and represents our values both internally and externally. As an obsessive consumer-centric technology company, we want Millennials and Gen Z to feel amazing when they shop with us, and Karma ticks all the right boxes and more!

New Logo

As we thrive on building a world-class company with a clear vision of becoming the world’s leading digital shopping assistant, we also need an iconic logo. After many brainstorms and multiple designs, we came up with a simple, vibrant circle representing what we believe “Karma” could look like in real life. We are also in the belief that the more value we bring to the marketplace, the more we’ll receive in return. Our new app icon is simple and powerful, and we are proud to reveal it below:

New logo and app icons.

When is it happening?

We hope you are as excited about Karma as we are! We are now gradually rolling out the new branding. All functionalities will remain the same, including saved items and cashback, so don’t get confused or scared if you suddenly see Karma’s icon on your phone and in your browser. 😃

As I’m wrapping up this announcement, I want to say that we couldn’t be more grateful for our team's hard work, our investor's support, our strong merchant partnerships, and the fact that you (our beloved users) decide to use us as your regular shopping companion. We will do everything in our power to make sure we keep earning your trust for many more years to come providing you with great Karma as you navigate the pre-purchasing journey online.
