New Data Reveals that Millennials Shop in Micro-Moments

At Shoptagr, we specialize in the pre-purchase journey. That’s everything that happens before the actual transaction.

Through our data and extensive customer development, we’ve discovered that Millennials (which are the vast majority of our userbase) shop in what we call micro-moments.

To explain the pre-purchase journey, we’ve created a fictional storyline below:

Millennials might discover an item they like on Snap, Instagram, Youtube or Facebook throughout the day in between breaks, they research it, find other brands and retailers selling that or something similar, they compare prices and read reviews. Then they finally make a decision (or not) by adding it to the cart, and then they start looking for a valid coupon to get the best value. They got multiple tabs open at the same time, accidentally closing windows that had active shopping carts, or they forget where they saw that item that they wanted. It can take weeks or sometimes months before a decision to purchase is made (which our data reveals here).

Does this sound familiar to you?

Because the shopping experience happens through several devices and mediums during the day, millennials are turning to digital shopping assistants like Shoptagr (like illustrated above), which simplifies and organizes the shopping process — and it also saves them time and money in the process.

Our users (including myself) mainly use Shoptagr to streamline their online shopping by saving products for later when they discover them in these micro-moments during the day. It could be when planning next month’s purchases in your lunch break at work, or being ready to pull the trigger when the price drops on a “nice-to-have” item when you are on the go.

Our users save tens of millions of items to their lists every year, and it’s just convenient to easily be able to access your saved items in one place across your devices. With Shoptagr, our users can transact with confidence, knowing they get the best value in that given moment when it’s time to pull the trigger.

What’s interesting is that we also see a bigger macrotrend in other industries and verticals to win deferent smaller parts of our day. Like the ability to get key takeaways from an entire book in just 15-minutes or less, with services like Blinkist, or watch short-form content (10–15min) on Netflix, Youtube, and Amazon, which represents a massive shift in the entertainment industry. Not to mention the very much hyped streaming app Quibi, which is launching in April 2020, focusing solely on short-form mobile-first entertainment. And then we got wellness apps like Calm and Headspace which encourages us to take 5-minute breaks during the day with a guided meditation.

With our increasingly busier schedules and notoriously short attention spans, Shoptagr’s digital assistant fits perfectly into any moment of your day.
